English blog day 1

Deployment day 5th October

My first day on my deployment day on "Statens kartverk" was very exiting. When i started my first day Petter Stensrud started with giving me a tour around the building. The whole building was much bigger than i could have ever imagined. The building itself was many floors high and had many wings attached to it. No, not wings on a bird, wings on a building. Like other parts of a building. for an example, they had like B wing  and E wing  and so on. Petter who was guiding me said that him self did loose his way once.

When i was done with the introduction of "Kartverket", Petter got a call from a client. The client had a problem with connecting to the internet at home. So we took the PC, and went down stairs to our office and tested it. There was no problem with the PC, so we figured out that it has to be the network at their home. So we could not do much about it.

Something else we encountered that day was that a new employee could not log onto their user. Since he that originally arranges users, was on vacation so we had to fix it. The employee had another problem. Her computer was to slow and crashed when we tried to uninstall the Office pack. We then decided to borrow her another computer until she gets the one she is supposed to use.

I also got my own computer there so I got Linux from them so I could experiment a little bit with it.

Day 2

Deployment day 6th of October.

Today I followed Petter and helped in any way I could. I could not do much other than come with solutions for the problem. I have also learned a lot because of the IT guys there. They are very nice and funny people so I enjoy working with them.
I learn a lot by just being close to them. They explain almost everything they say so it is easy to understand.

One of the chores I got today was helping to set up a PC. It was not so hard since it was just to plug in the cables and turn it on. But we encountered a problem, and it was that the screen kept flickering every second. After a little of googling and no solution we tried to change the cable from DisplayPort to DVI Single link. That solved the problem, but then another one came. Max resolution was not achieved because the cable wasn’t dual link, it was single link. So It looked a little bit stretched out.

Another problem we found was that a part of the power button on a computer was broken. The part that held it onto the PC had cracked and got destroyed so we had to use glue to fix it.
